Banwarey – Indian Designer Label To Know
Discovering Indian labels that are free of unnecessary frippery and not available in malls has become an intensely satisfying discovery experience Re-imagined textiles, handloom saris, handicrafts that follow Indian rituals of design and artistry is pure joy. I have the bug eyes for anything that is not mass produced. Hence the discovery of Banwarey, a label started by four friends Apurva Nayal, Ajay Singh Rawat, Shrishti Jain and Shruti Joshi is currently on top of the list for me.
In their words Banwarey is a product of the passion for art and aesthetics commonly shared by the four of them. Smitten by the charm of Indian artistry, it reflects in the clothes, jewelry and shoes that Banwarey makes. The focus is on crafting merchandise with a raw approach rather than heavy processing and drawing motivation from things that exist around us.
My favorite part about Banwarey is their lookbook. Playfully shot while it connects in a realistic way. I can look at it and safely assume how it will look on me because unlike most brands/labels these days these are shot on real people with bodies I can relate with. The raw approach that appears in the manufacturing process translates in the photo-shoots of the look books as well.
The designs have kept in focus the needs of the 21st-century women for their changing needs and trends, but without compromising on quality and comfort. The designs have a very ‘care free attitude’ about them. Thus the designs don’t fall under any age constraints, and fulfill the best of both worlds for all women, giving them style and freedom to experiment at the same time.
For an example “The not so Quintessential Choli by Banwarey” aims at blending traditional Indian ethnic wear with modernity. And the Peplum Choli is versatile enough to be worn with a saree or as a top. You can expect a lot of experimental designs that are works of art are what the people behind Banwarey say when asked about the way forward.
