Shambhavi & Abhishek, Designers

 In Featured, People

I met Shambhavi and Abhishek while they were manning the Anavila stall at a textile and handloom exhibition.  The duo are textile designers at Anavila. The brand Anavila creates beautiful designer sarees in natural linen. The design vocabulary of the brand is contemporary, though it’s roots are completely Indian.  As much as I adored the sarees that were on sale, I loved how Shambhavi had draped her Anavila saree. I probably have worn a saree not more than  four times in my entire life, yet I am always drawn to it. Regardless of the fact that she was working, I had to pull her aside to get chatty. Abhishek, apparently is a master draper and knows how to drape sarees in a hundred ways without exaggeration and he was the one who draped her saree. We soon shot some pictures, made abstract plans for when we find ourselves in each others cities again. (They are Mumbai based )

In conversation with Abhishek Shinde

Where did you grow up and what did you major in?

I was born in Chembur (Mumbai), moved to Vashi (Navi Mumbai) at the age of 10.  I completed my B.F.A, Textiles from Sir JJ school of art in 2011. Also completed my M.DES (masters in design space) from NIFT Mumbai in 2013

Currently pursuing:

I work as a designer for textile and fashion for the label ANAVILA under Anavila Misra.

Five go to places for inspiration:

I browse; Magazines like Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, Etc. Books, reference books of my style icons biopics ( I am an absolute fanatic of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor to name a few) I precisely like the old school fashion, I would not simply put it across as retro! Blogs like, Wearbout, The Sartorialist (sucker for street fashion). People, who dress to reflect their true sensibilities minus the discomfort itch.

What are you looking forward to?

Definitely a vacation, probably Europe for the coming summer. I like to move around to get inspired and meet new people.
